About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. The second book released in 1885, translated in English with the title Bel Ami, or, The History of a Scoundrel: A Novel first came out in 1903.

The tale records journalist Georges Duroy's fraudulent intensification to authority from a deprived former NCO to among the highly famous men in Paris, many of which he accomplishes by deploying a series of great, brilliant, and rich women.

Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant was a French author, commemorated as a master of the short fiction style, and as a representative of the naturalist school of authors, who portrayed human existences and fates and communal dynamisms in cynical and frequent glum words.

Guy was a pupil of Flaubert and his tales are branded by frugality of form and resourceful, easy ends. Most are situated in the Franco-Prussian War of the 1870s, illustrating the uselessness of war and the guiltless people who, involved in events past their authority, are constantly reformed by their encounters. He drafted around 300 short literature, six novels, three books about travel, and one book of poetry.

Henri-René-Albert-Guy de Maupassant was born in Château de Miromesnil or Castle Miromesnil, nearby Dieppe in the Seine-Inférieure, now called as Seine-Maritime, department in France. His father was Laure Le Poittevin and Gustave de Maupassant, both from wealthy bourgeois families. When Guy was 11 years old and his brother Hervé was 5 years old, his mother, an free-thinking woman, gambled social humiliation to acquire a lawful separation from her husband.

Guy is regarded as among the fathers of the contemporary short fiction. He reveled in smart scheming, and acted as an example for Somerset Maugham and O. Henry in this regard. Among his popular short fiction, The Necklace, was emulated with a variation by both Maugham - Mr Know-All, A String of Beads and Henry James - Paste.
