A scarce work. A facsimile reproduction of a rare 1881 pamphlet with bibliographical appendices and bibliography by Frank Anderson. This work is an interesting look at the roots of modern submarine warfare, looking at the influence of David Bushnell. David Bushnell was credited with having created the first ever submarine used in combat whilst he was studying at Yale. By Henry Larcom Abbot. Abbot was a military engineer and officer in the United States Army. He also wrote a selection of works about the Panama Canal, as well as serving as a consultant for the locks on the Canal. With a frontispiece. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light marking to the boards. The odd spot to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
