New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1911. FIRST EDITION, first printing (Oct. 1911). 8vo. First state points: spine is flat with "Harpers" imprint 1/16th of an inch tall. Brightly decorated, rich red silk-finshed mesh cloth, embossed with holly leaves and berries. The book is colorfully illustrated with story vignettes throughout. Gilt is muted, spine is darkened from handling, lacking front free endpaper. FAIR MINUS condition only. . First Edition. Full Cloth. Fair/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Hardcover.
Synopsis
The maple-bordered street was as still as a country Sunday; so quiet that there seemed an echo to my footsteps. It was four o'clock in the morning; clear October moonlight misted through the thinning foliage to the shadowy sidewalk and lay like a transparent silver fog upon the house of my admiration, as I strode along, returning from my first night's work on the "Wainwright Morning Despatch."
