Bright, crisp, clean, gently pushed corner tips, glossy laminated paper-covered boards with colour pictorial cartoon illustration with black-outlined white edged red capital letters with yellow repeated same letters within and black shadowing of 'Beano' title, remainder letters 'THE' and 'BOOK' in black-outlined white capitals, year date in black numbers to front cover,a bright,non-sunned blue spine/backstrip, with 'The' and 'Book' in black italics; 'BEANO' in black-outlined yellow capitals with black highlightng within the letter, and 3-colour block pictorial cartoon illustrated sets of endpapers. Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - head of spine's gutter's folds/creases with a only a singe small closed tear to one and a small snick to other with concomitant minimal rubbing and reciprocal paper loss to same, similar rubbing+paper loss to foot of spine too - no other nicks, tears or splits present and minimal and barely perceptible scoring impressions to either board.Top+fore-edges inevitably but lightly aged/toned with some minimal sporadic foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - virtually pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - appears unread other than my own collation.Front board with colour pictorial cartoon illustration of Minnie and Dennis having a paint-ball fight to a snowy, scenic landscape background, rear board reveals the pair of them colour-banding and painting the snow on the ground leaving white capital letters: 'DENNIS AND MINNIE WERE HERE' within the coloured bands.Top+fore-edges slightly aged/toned with some minimal, sporadic foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - near pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners appears unread other than my own collation.UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,1st edn,140pp [unpaginated] includes Beano comic's characters',3-colour block (either red+b/w, orange+b/w or blue+b/w) coloured pictorial comic strips, and NONE of the interactive quizzes, maze and other puzzles attempted or marked - unused.
Visually the exterior appearance is acceptable for a book of it's age and nature, i.e a child's book, whilst internally, the book is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the exterior few minor faults that prevents a slightly higher grading.
This annual celebrates the BEANO and DANDY comic's 50th anniversary.
This annual is significant as in the comic,an increase in the number of colour pages in the comic, led to Minnie appearing in full colour for the first time.In the strip itself,Minnie dressed up as Pansy Potter in compliance with the editor's wishes.Throughout the strip she attempts impossible feats in hope to appear just like Pansy. This even consists of attempting to sink war submarines, something the old character used to do during The Beano's war times.Despite the fact she is weaker than Pansy,Minnie does manage to withhold four sailors before they finally manage to catch her and tie her up leaving her before her father. However, previously she had filled her father's jumper with balloons and using Pansy's unique hairstyle, manages to burst the balloons causing her father to flee home in the nude, the thought of punishing his daughter forgotten.[In the comic and not the annual.]
The Beano Annual is the current name of the book that has been published every year since 1939,to tie in with the children's British comic 'The Beano'.As of 2021 there have been 83 editions. These annuals were traditionally published in July or August,in time for Christmas market, and since 1965 (dated 1966) they have had the date of the following year on the cover, before then,no date was given.
From 1943 to 1950 the annual was called 'The Magic-Beano Book, which referred to the merging of the short-lived sister comic 'Magic Comic' that then ceased publication in 1941 due to WW2 and Britain's introduction of strict paper-rationing.Though with war's end and the later end of paper-rationing too,the comic was never revived. However, some of the characters who had originally appeared in the pre-war 'Magic Comic' managed to remain as regular strips in the post-1950 'Beano' comic (such as Koko the Pup). The name reverted to the original title of 'The Beano Book' in 1950 and continued, the year changing for each subsequent annual, until the release of the 2003 book (in 2002) when it was renamed 'The Beano Annual'.The 2011 Beano Annual is taller and wider than previous annuals.
Because of his popularity,Dennis the Menace has appeared on the front cover of every annual since the release of the 1979 annual in 1978.
The latest version came out 2020 and was dated 2021.From 2009 (out in 2008)until 2020 (released 2019),the book consistently retailed at £7.99.
