The German army in WWII sought to fight and win swift decisive victories in a succession of short campaigns called blitzkrieg- or lighting war. Flexibility was as essential as the will to win. Battle Groups, or Shock Troops (Kampfgruppen) were created from disparate military units to undertake a specific local operation. It was the army's skill in combining superior numbers, aggressive tactics, and the battle group's commander's ability to exploit the changing situation on the ground which brought success on every battle field. The actions described in this book were used by Battle Groups, large and small, to perform a specific tasks led by a commander of low rank and allowed to make use of his powers. These cases are powerful lessons in the tactics of battle management. A clean very presentable copy.
