About This Item
Boston: South End Press, 1982. Paper bound, first edition, 142pp includes chronology at back. A tight, unarked copy in very good or beter condition. 215 grams. The Battle of Beirut is an indictment of what Israel has done in Lebanon: it explodes the myth that this was a 'limited' operation, that Israel did not intend to harm civilians, that casualties were minimal and that the PLO was 'Holding Beirut hostage'. The book analyses the war from June 1982, when Israel launched the invasion, to the massacre at Sabra and Chatila in September. It exposes Israel's longer-term ambitions: the extension of Greater Israel and the destabilisation of the whole region. It also looks at US policy - especially the degree of collusion between Secretary of State Alexander Haig and the Israeli leaders - and at the unprecedented furore which the war provoked in Israel. The book is thoroughly documented from the European, American and Israeli press. All books in stock and available for immediate shipment from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
