Paris: Henri Jonquieres, 1929. First Edition. HB. Blue cloth, red lettering on spine and red cannon on front cover, large 8vo, 329 pp., top edge of text block red. With lithographs by Rene Ben Sussan at the start of each chapter, and with 4 maps. Account of the authors experiences in World War I. Brooks (1882-1964) graduated from Harvard in 1905. Living in France when World War I started, he enlisted as an ambulance driver and later attended artillery school and rose to the rank of Lieutenant of a field artillery battery in the French army. He saw action at the Marne, Chemin-des-Dames, Chateau-Thierry and Meuse-Argonne, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Unnumbered copy of a limited edition of 400 copies. No marks in book, binding tight. Light offsetting to endpapers. Very light edge wear to covers, small dent on front cover, light stain bottom rear cover. Book condition VG.
