About This Item
London and Newcastle-on-Tyne: The Walter Scott Publishing Co., Ltd, 1903. Hardcover. First Edition, Trade Issue. 12mo. 115pp. Bound in the original publisher ribbed cloth. Signed and inscribed by the author to his famous colleague and with a small line of original verse: 'To James Whitcomb Riley, from Norman Gale, with big and bright regards. April the First, and I hope (for it is raining hard) the Worst. 1903.' Like Riley, Gale was known for his verse which appealed to the child reader and, though very little is known of his biography, served for a time as a school master. Association copy. GOOD. Shows marginal shelf rubbing along the edges, spine faded and rubbed, some scuffing and lift of the cloth, otherwise the binding is strong and tight and the text is clean and unmarked. As pictured.
