New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1986., 1986. First edition. First edition. Inscribed on the half title page, "For Captain Roo -Any friend of T. McGee is a friend of mine! Best regards/ John D. MacDonald/ 19 Aug '86." This is his last book and it is scarce signed. Fine in dust jacket. In West Bay, Mississippi, land developer Tuck Loomis fraudulently acquires Barrier Island and supposedly plans to turn this ecologically important area into an exclusive enclave consisting of million dollar homes. In reality, Loomis plans to sell the island to the U.S. Parks Department at an overly inflated price. When realtor Wade Rowley learns of Loomis' plan, he sets out to thwart the deal. Quickly, Wade discovers that all the right people have been bribed, making Tuck's scheme unstoppable.
