Illustrator: Philip Gough. 600 g.; VIII, 214 pages, last two pages blank, a further four pages of further titles in Illustrated Classic Series. Illustrated endpapers, and dustwrapper by Alexander H. Williamson. Colour Illustrated frontispiece by Philip Gough, who also drew the three other colour illustrations and 10 black-and-white illustrations within the text. Illustrated cloth covered boards with black titles to the front panel and backstrip. Minor bumping to the backstrip edge and rubbing to the book corners. Dust marks and browning to the top text block edges and like browning and foxing to the other edges. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with white and black titles to the front panel and backstrip. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper are corners and backstrip edges. Rubbing to all edges of the dustwrapper and dustwrapper panels. Browning and handling marks to the rear dustwrapper panel. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. PLEASE NOTE: -- on the front fold over panel there has been a note "Slightly Abridged with the Omission of Some Out-Dated General Observations". To the top right-hand corner of the front fold over panel the original price has been placed in blue ink. A novel first published in 1902 and dealing with Napoleon's march into Russia and the effect it has on the family Sebastian and the old Napoleonic soldier Barlasch who has been billeted with them.
