About This Item

London: Sphere, 2006. A Fine unmarked copy with dustjacket which is not price clipped. Johnson Harry was a private with the 1st Battalion Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment who received Britain's highest award for gallantry, the Victoria Cross, in 2005, becoming the first living recipient for nearly 40 years. Born in an isolated on the island of Grenada, he arrived in England aged 19 and enlisted. As driver of a Warrior armoured fighting vehicle, he carried out two acts of outstanding heroism in Southern Iraq, saving the lives of 30 of his companions, aged just 24. In the second action, a rocket propelled grenade exploded 6 inches from his head, yet he managed to reverse his vehicle out of an ambush zone before collapsing. Nobody thought he would survive, but against all odds he emerged from his coma and endured a series of complex operations to remove shrapnel from his brain. 13. First Edition. Hard Cover.
