About This Item

HARDBACK "UNCOMMON," SHIPPED FROM THE UK* Edition: Reprint?* Date of Publication: 1850?* Publisher: Simpkin & Marshall.* Binding and cover condition: Grey-green cloth covered boards with gilt title & banding to spine, none to face. Heavy bumps & rubs to edges and corners, some shelf wear to head and tail of spine. ACC.* Jacket condition: No dust jacket. ND.* Contents condition: PRIVATE COPY NOT EX-LIBRARY. Previous owners name to front paste down with date 16/8/54. Coloured end-papers (lemon) with some very slight marks. Contents clean, crisp and tight. (The titles of the plates are very close to the edge of the margins, the first eight plates and the title page, have semi-circular, historical damp marks to the top margins. The text pages are un-affected and for these reasons we suspect that this copy is a re-bind.) GD++.* Illustrations: Title page illustrated with a print of Cowes. Three section fold-out map of The Isle-of-Wight at front of text. 40 fine engraved b/w plates within text.* Pages: 102 pp. text. v pp. index & blank page at rear.* Product description:- Comprising views of every object of interest on the Island, engraved from original drawings, accompanied by Historical and Topographical descriptions. From the preface:- It must be a matter of surprise that no Work has been devoted to "The Garden of England" (as the Isle of Wight is so properly denominated) or published on the plan of combining illustrations worthy of the subject, with a concise historical and descriptive guide.? This is a NEAR VG text copy with considerable age and wear reducing it to ACC.*
