About This Item
London, United Kingdom: National Society's Depository, 1890. Book. Illus. by C. J. Staniland. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First UK Edition, First Printing. n.d, Pp 280. This is a true UK first edition, first printing (first impression). Original bevelled yellow cloth covers with pictorial decoration and black titles to the upper front panel and spine, dusting and dulling to the covers but generally bright. Internally clean with erased pencil marks on some pages - these are faint, presentation plate to the front inner board, missing blank front end page else complete. With Five Full-page Illustrations by C. J. Staniland. An acceptable copy of a genuinely very scarce title. Descriptive of country life on the confines of wild Dartmoor, a story of Devon witchcraft in the late 18th cent. The banning of Lois Smerdon, the black witch, at length comes to an end, and so plentiful are the blessings which follow that all ends happily and full of promise for the future..
