London: Cassell and Company, Limited, 1896. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo 7" - 7. Variant binding, being an extremely handsome rebind of a First Edition of Thackeray's songs and ballads. New decorated endpapers front and rear, quite fine. Light brown linen cloth over boards, fine brown leather generously over tips, spine, with five raised bands and fleurs-de-lis in compartments in gilt, with title and author in gilt also at spine. Original text-block is tightly bound, clean, unmarked but for a Christmas gift inscription at second, original, first free endpaper, also being decorated. Some slightly heavier foxing at initial endpapers, dissipating thereafter, but lightly so. Several dozen fine black-and-white engravings by H.M. Bock, including at frontis, heads, tails and initials. A fetching, copiously illustrated compendia of poetry from the English satirist Thackeray. Includes The Chronicle of the Drum, The King of Yvetot, Love Songs, German Ditties, Old Friends With New Faces, Lyra Hibernica, Ballads of Policeman X, and many more poems, snippets from plays and song lyrics. xiv [2], 2-276 pp. plus an extensive list of publisher's other offerings.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
