London: John Lane, The Bodley Head, 1907 149pp, plus 223 plates. Gilt design on front board and spine. Gilt top edge of the text block. Boards have a light bend. Lower edge of front board has small to moderate surface tears. Top edge is dust stained. Spine heel of rear panel is discolored at the bottom 2". Spine panel has darkened. Tips and spine ends are bumped and rubbed. Cloth is torn at spine head but is still present. Front endpaper has darkened. Former owner notations on the rear endpaper. Signature between text and plates is starting to open. Plates are white! Text is clean and unmarked. . Later Printing. Hard Cover. Fair/No Dust Jacket.

Gilt titles to both front board and spine. Boards lightly soiled and edges rubbed. All page edges gilt. Light toning to endpapers, otherwise clean text and illustrations throughout. A very good copy. ** "Albert Frederick Calvert (1872-1946), author, traveller and mining engineer, was born on 20 July 1872 at Kentish Town, Middlesex, England, son of John Calvert, mining engineer, and his wife Grace, née Easley. He was brought up principally by his grandfather John Calvert (1814-1897), a widely travelled mineralogist who claimed extensive gold discoveries in Australia in the 1840s. Initiated as a Freemason in 1893, he became something of an authority on Masonic history in later life, though his work is not now highly regarded. Depending on Masonic help in his last years, Calvert died of cerebro-vascular disease in the Archway Hospital, Islington, London, on 27 June 1946, survived by his wife and four sons." - See Australian Dictionary of Biography. .
