About This Item

Providence: Privately published, 1937. First Edition. Soft cover. Near Fine. Apparent 1st printing. Pictorial wraps. 35pp. Illustrated with drawings & a photo of the author. Clean red three-line stamp on front & back covers, "Compliments of Howard & Lewis Ford-Mercury & Lincoln-Zephry 186 Fountain St (,) Providence, R.I." Much practical info such as "What to Do When Lost in the Woods," "Building Fires in the Snow," "Fly-Dope," "Fixing a Devilish Paddle," "Booze in the Woods," "Outwitting the Blow Flies," "How to Weigh Fish When You Have No Scales," "How to Get Meat Without Firearms," "How to Skin an Eel" and many more tips and advice. Information along with the frontispiece portrait of McAleer says he was "born and raised in Wirral, New Brunswick, where he now runs an outstanding guiding business." Flint maintains that McAleer "has called over 100 bull moose for me in the last six years." Fine copy allowing for commercial stamp. This appears to be a rare booklet on wood craft & camping / hunting as no copies appear for sale on the internet and the world library search reveals not copies whatsoever. A search of McAleer's name tantalizingly connects him with a 1923 Canadian National Railway promo booklet titled, Fishing in Canada.
