Small quarto (19 x 19cm), pp.56; pp.56. Both volumes with fine colour illustrations designed by Crane and printed by Evans, accompanying printed music and words to various classic children's songs. First volume with publisher brown cloth to spine, illustrated brown paper-covered boards and dark green endpapers. All edges brown. Second volume with publisher's brown cloth spine, green and orange illustrated paper-covered boards, and endpapers patterned in green. All edges yellow. Second volume also with the dust-jacket printed in green. First volume extremely heavily worn to edges and binding. Hinges split and roughly re-cased. Clean but well-thumbed. Fair. Second volume very clean internally, with hinges just starting in places. Lower corners and edges of boards heavily rubbed and bumped. Jacket lightly toned with a few minor chips and closed tears. Very good. As a pair, good. First published in 1878 and 1880 respectively, and containing such classics as 'Oranges and Lemons;' 'My Lady's Garden;' 'I Saw Three Ships;' 'Three Blind Mice;' 'Baa! Baa! Black Sheep;' 'Hot Cross Buns;' 'Sur le Pont d'Avignon' and 'London Bridge,' among many others. Warne purchased the rights to print many of Routledge's popular children's books in 1900.
