Medina, Ohio: The A.I. Root Company. Good. 1910. Reprint. Hardcover. 576 p. 24 cm. Bound in cloth-covered boards. Binding is somewhat loose because both hinges are cracked, but not detached from text block. Gilt illustration on upper board and spine are dulled. Corner tips are worn through. Both boards have some soil and they and the spine are somewhat faded. Previous owner's name on first blank page and another name stamped on the title page and at least twice in the text itself. About two dozen pages have a small stain mark on them. Otherwise, the pages are clean and unmarked. An extensive book on farming bees for honey production, arranged as an encyclopedia with entries alphabetized. Amos Ives Root (1839–1923) was an Ohio entrepreneur who developed innovative techniques for beekeeping during the late 19th century, when the practice played an important role in the economy of many communities in the U.S. Among his major contributions was a method to harvest honey without destroying the beehive. He founded his own company, which continues in business to the present day. (from Wikipedia) This book was originally published as the A B C of Bee Culture in 1879. , and is a longer version of a work still considered useful to beekeepers today. Illustrated with black and white photographs and engravings, it also includes a sixty page section of black and white photographs of apiaries and bee exhibits. May require extra postage due to weight of book. .
