The magazine had a short run of only 14 issues, publishing from January 1968 to July 1971. Edited by Ralph Ginzburg, it was the third collaboration between Ginzburg and Lubalin, having previously worked on Eros and Fact. Ê Ê Avant Garde had a modest circulation but was extremely popular in certain circles, including with New York's advertising and editorial art directors. It folded due to Ralph Ginzburg losing his long-running legal battle with the US government over obscenity charges, partly stemming from Ralph's and Herb's first collaboration, Eros magazine.
