About This Item

Postmarked 5 March 1825. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, with the address panel (small tear at seal opening). Sir Augustus Wall Callcott (1779 – 1844), English landscape painter. There are qualities in Callcott's work which gained the admiration of J. M. W. Turner and Thomas Stothard in his day. He married Maria Graham, a writer on art and travel. They resided at the Gravel Pits, Kensington. “I wish to God your copper was made of a lighter material. Is it quite out of the question your engaging a broad wheeld waggon to get it to the Gravel Pits for I long to see it and am anxious that you should lose no time in getting the biting in done as you propose ...” George Cooke (1781-1834), line engraver.
