About This Item
Postmarked 5 March 1825. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, with the address panel (small tear at seal opening). Sir Augustus Wall Callcott (1779 1844), English landscape painter. There are qualities in Callcott's work which gained the admiration of J. M. W. Turner and Thomas Stothard in his day. He married Maria Graham, a writer on art and travel. They resided at the Gravel Pits, Kensington. I wish to God your copper was made of a lighter material. Is it quite out of the question your engaging a broad wheeld waggon to get it to the Gravel Pits for I long to see it and am anxious that you should lose no time in getting the biting in done as you propose ... George Cooke (1781-1834), line engraver.
