Boscastle, 24 September 1875. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, fine. Sir Rutherford Alcock (1809-97), diplomat in China and Japan, author of The Capital of the Tycoon [1863] and other works on Japan. In 1858 he was appointed the first consul-general in Japan, on the conclusion of Lord Elgin’s treaty. Jabez Hogg (1817–1899), ophthalmic surgeon.
