M. Brock.'The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table' is a collection of essays that were originally published in 'The Atlantic Monthly'. The essays take the form of one-sided dialogue, and discuss the benefits of old age, the nature of conversation, and the finest place to site a dwelling.'The Professor at the Breakfast-Table' and 'The Poet at the Breakfast-Table' were continuations of 'The Autocrat'. The original narrator, the 'Autocrat' of the first work, dies, and is replaced with a physician who was trained in Paris, and then replaced in 'The Poet' with a character who advocates modern scientific ideas.Present here are Dent's 1911 editions of the 'Professor' and 'Autocrat', and the 1907 edition of 'The Poet'.
