Brown lettering and rule decoration on boards. Slight whitish discolouration to bottom of boards. With light bumping to ends of spine and corners. Red top edge, others uncut. In dust jacket with slight fading (especially to spine), chipping along edges, some soiling, with several small closed tears, wear and creases. Inner corners of jacket trimmed. Plates from 10 illustrations by David Low. 3 lines in pencil re Low illustrations on front free endpaper. very good The first US edition of the book. The first UK edition is 108 in Wells Society "The story tells how a history don at Oxford falls asleep during a seance and dreams he had become Lord Paramount of the Empire.
