About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1974. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition. Hardcover. First Edition. A fascinating memoir of her life in ballet, briefly Inscribed by the legendary ballerina as Margot Fonteyn Arias (her married name) on the title page. Royal 8vo. 266 pp. + index. A fine copy in black cloth, gilt titles to the spine in a near fine pictorial dust wrapper portraying Fonteyn as photographed by Cecil Beaton. Stunning black and white photographs. Fonteyn pays particular homage to Rudolf Nureyev, her charismatic, longtime dancing partner, whom, she admits readily, gave her a second career in ballet that resulted in one of the greatest ballet partnerships in history, dazzling audiences in the 1960's and 1970's. "There is a feeling for choreographic form that gives shape and substance to the composition of what she is dancing, to a degree that one has never seen equaled in the ballet." The New Yotk Times. Size: Royal 8vo.
