Freiburg: Herderische Verlagshandlung, 1900. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. A dialogue and history on all the Australian states, including natural history, major towns and industries. The illustrations are mostly wood block, drawn from many other contemporary sources. The author was German who migrated to Australia where he became a doctor in Brisbane. This volume illustrates Lauterer's passion for the Aborigines and takes a full 90 pages to describe their culture, medicine and language. Large 8vo, (x) 482pp, color frontispiece & many black and white illustrations in the text. Original pictorial brown cloth covers stamped in black & gilt, slightly rubbed but still a bright clean copy in vg+ cond. Ferguson 11461.
