About This Item
London: Robert Hale Limited. Very Good- in Very Good- dust jacket. 1968. First Edition. Hard Cover. 0709101228 . A U.K. first edition of this history of Australia, from the arrival of the British Government's "First Fleet" under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip in 1788 to the time of publication in the 1960s. Much of the early history was rather miserable, as the principal residents were prisoners sent from England. With several black & white photos and a two-page map of Australia show early explorations. --- In full grey paper-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling. Jacket features an image of the First Fleet in Botany Bay to cover. --- With dampstains to lower portion of both covers and jacket, with cover corner bumps and what appears to be Calcutta bookseller's rubberstamping to rear endpapers; else a clean, sound copy. Besides the dampstains, the unclipped jacket has chafing and creasing to extremities, but remains mostly intact and protected in archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; 255 pages .
