Circa [1910s]., [1910s].. Very good. - Sepia toned 5-3/8 inch high by 3-3/8 inch wide photo postcard. Signed "Marie Studholme". The surface of the bottom left corner is rubbed away, not affecting the photo. The last five letters of the signature are penned against a the dark background but are easily legible. The verso is lightly foxed. Very good.

A charming photograph of the actor with dark curly hair, her chin tipped up in a fetching smile, revealing perfect teeth, She was one of the most popular postcard subjects of her day. She is here photographed by Lizzie Caswell Smith [1870-1958], a British photographer who specialized in society and celebrity studio portraits, and whose photos were often used for postcards. She was also associated with the Women's Suffrage movement and photographed many suffragettes including Flora Drummond, Millicent Fawcett and Christabel Pankhurst.

Marie Studholme [1872-1930] was a British actor and singer who played both starring and supporting roles in Victorian and Edwardian musical comedy.
