Owner's name in pencil.. 1833. VERY RARE. Original binding. First edition. Half black leather over purple boards. Horizontal bands to spine highlighted in bright gilt. Gilt titling. Inserts have decorative blind stamping. Green endpapers. 412pp. O'Brien (1792-1874) was an Irish Protestant clergyman who defended Protestant doctrine against sceptics, the Oxford Movement and other encroachments on Reformed orthodoxy. He was highly esteemed for his ""unwavering consistency"" in resisting error.
