Originally published in magazine format in Bohemian Magazine, December 1909.
Condition of the book is Very Good Plus, with sound binding, complete and unmarked inside pages. A well preserved copy.

Luce. 12mo. 33pp. Unprinted brown wrappers over stiff boards with publisher's printed paper label on front cover. The spine of the wrappers are creased and thinly split along length of spine, short creased edge-tear at front panel, else a near fine copy. *Schrader* A9.1.c; *Frey* p.20. In 1923, John W. Luce & Co. reissued *The Artist* from the old plates, but without change in the title-page.

A re-issue of this title done in 1923 using the same sheets as the 1912 edition and without changing the date on the title page but using a binding of wrappers over boards with a paper label pasted on the front. See Frey p. 20 for a description of the printing history of this title. A fine copy with integral jacket minutely worn at lower edges. A play that first appeared in The Bohemian Magazine.

The correct first edition of this title bound in mottled brown paper covered boards with the title "The Artist" enclosed in a decorative box printed in dark brown on the front cover.
