About This Item

London: T Nelson and Sons, 1884. No dustwrapper, some wear to the spine ends, bevelled edges and corners of green cloth-covered boards; gilt titles and decoration on the spine is rubbed but still readable, as is the gilt title and red-and-black illustration of John Knox's house on front board. Minor foxing to outer pages, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book, being a historical tale set in Scotland at the time of the Reformation in the mid sixteenth century. No author's name given (''By the Author of 'The Spanish Brothers', 'The Czar: a Tale of the Time of the First Napoleon' etc' '' but author's name, according to the British Library, was Deborah Alcock (1825-1913). She was the daughter of the Anglican Archdeacon of Waterford and wrote many other novels of the same type. 520pp plus 8pp adverts.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
