About This Item

Rio de Janeiro: Aprazível Edições, 2008. b/w and color plates, frontis., facs., ports., cat., bios/chrons., color pict. d.j. The book represents a panoramic view of Brazilian contemporary art with a selection of artistic creations from the holdings of the João Manuel Sattamini Collection. The publication examines the historical and artistic atmosphere in Brazil of the last 5 decades of the 20th century, through the collection Sattamini, one of the most important art collections of Brazil. João Manuel Sattamini was a former director of the defunct Subdistrito Gallery in São Paulo who collected more than 1200 art pieces that includes works by Lygia Clark, Antonio Dias, Volpi, Hélio Oiticica, Amilcar de Castro, Iberé Camargo, Leonilson and Eduardo Sued amongst other names and presently in loan in MAC Niterói. The book is divided in 5 chapters, each one is dedicated to decade (1950-1990), and following a sequence that considers each historic period and critical texts on the artists as presentation of their work. Includes an interview with João Sattamini by Carlos Alberto de Andrade Pinto. "The present fine edition comprises examples of Brazilian paintings and sculptures that established a turning point of creativities in each decade of the 20th century, from a selection done by Luis Camillo Osorio -who also did the reflexive texts over the artwork and the artists"--P. [7]. ENGLISH AND PORTUGUESE TEXT.
