About This Item
Philadelphia: Philadelphia Museum of Art in association with Merrell, 2000. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Softcover. Condition: Very good, with very light shelfwear to covers. Binding sound, no inscriptions. 628pp. Many colour and b/w illustrations. This catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition entitled "The Splendor of 18th Century Rome" held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from March 16 to May 28, 2000, which then toured to Houston. Throughout the 18th century, the city of Rome, with its antiquities, Renaissance and Baroque monuments, and cosmopolitan spirit, was the artistic and cultural capital of Europe. This was the Rome of the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, the Rome of carnivals and papal ceremonies, the Rome that Piranesi depicted in his celebrated prints; a mecca for amateur, student and professional artists from throughout the Western world. A heavy catalogue - will require extra shipping charges if to be sent outside UK..
