About This Item

Hennessey & Ingalls, Inc., Los Angeles, first edition, 1977. Limited edition of 1000 copies. Glossy card wrappers, 8vo,. xxvi, 303 pp. Approximately 2,000 entries. This is a superb bibliography of some 1800 books, articles, exhibition catalogues etc published up to 1971 relating to the Art Nouveau movement. The bibliography is arranged in several sections, the first of which deals with the general subject of Art Nouveau; the later ones covering the movement and its development in Austria, Belgium and France. The general section and the three national sections are further divided by form (i.e. architecture, posters, individual decorative arts, book design, etc). Within each country an alphabetical listing of individual artists follows the various media. Within each subdivision for a subject or artist, books and exhibition catalogues are listed in one alphabetical sequence, followed by periodical articles in a second alphabetical sequence. Bibliographic details are given for each of the approximately 1800 publications listed, together with a brief annotation indicating the content (unless the title is self-explanatory). There is a good index. An essential and increasingly difficult to find reference work for any student of Art Nouveau, or any dealer or collector specializing in it. Wrappers lightly soiled, otherwise Very Good.
