Very Good/Acceptable. 6x1x9. 1939 first edition, first printing, Sheed and Ward (New York), 4 5/8 x 7 inches tall orange cloth hardcover in publisher's unclipped dust jacket, black lettering to spine, illustrated with black-and-white reproductions of artwork, 285 pp. Very slight soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers, with just a touch of small white stains to the rear cover. Prior owner signature and notations in red to the blank front pastedown and free-endpaper. Very slight staining to half title page. Otherwise, a very good copy in a rubbed, soiled, edgeworn and chipped dust jacket which is nicely preserved and displayed in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. ~SP27~ [1.5P] Louis Henri Jean Charlot (1898-1979) was a French-born American painter and illustrator, active mainly in Mexico and the United States. This book of his collected articles deals mainly with American Art. He speaks only of that with which he has come in actual contact—but in doing so he takes us all the way from the jungles of Yucatan, in which he did spade work as an archeologist, to Hollywood, where he lectured at the Disney Studios.
