Cabinet-making is a fascinating chapter in the history of Russian applied art in the eighteenth century. In the second half of that century Nikifor Vasilyev, Matvei Veretennikov, the Naskov, and other expert Russian cabinet-makers produced lovely pieces of marquetry furniture -- tables, chests of drawers, bureau and escritoires, as well as magnificent parquetry floors for palace halls.
