Henri Frankfort died in 1954. This masterwork was published posthumously with the assistance of his colleagues. "His greatest love was the work of art for its own sake, and he regarded it as his task -- as indeed the present book fully proves -- to present oriental art as art, and not as archaeological evidence." The book is in fine condition with a hint of fold to the free front endpaper. No writing inside. Hinges sound. Dust jacket has rubbing along folds and wear to extremities. In a slipcase that is rubbed along edges, but still sound. Fine in very good dust jacket/slipcase.. Fourth Edition Revised and Updated. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. Illus. by Illustrated. 4to..
