About This Item

Oxford: Osprey Publishing Ltd, 2008. Third printing [stated]. Trade paperback. Very good. Tony Bryan. 48 pages. Illustrations (some with color). Further Reading. Index. Steven J. Zaloga (born February 1, 1952) is an American author and defense consultant. He received a bachelor's degree cum laude at Union College and a masters degree at Columbia University, both in history. He has published many books dealing with modern military technology, and especially Soviet and CIS tanks and armored warfare. He is a senior analyst at the Teal Group. He is also a noted scale armor modeler and is a host/moderator of the World War II Allied Discussion group. He is a frequent contributor to the UK-based modeling magazine Military Modelling. He is a member of the Armor Modeling and Preservation Society. Tony Bryan has worked as a freelance illustrator for many years, after initially qualifying in Engineering and working for a number of years in Military Research and Development. Tony has a keen interest in military hardware - armor, small arms, aircraft. First seen during the American Civil War and later appearing in the Franco-Prussian War and the Anglo-Boer Wars, the armored train came to prominence on the Eastern Front during World War I. It was also deployed during the Russian Civil War and the technology traveled east into the Chinese Civil War, and the subsequent war with Japan. It saw service on the Russian Front in World War II, but was increasingly sidelined by its vulnerability to air attack. Steven J. Zaloga examines the origins and development of the armored train focusing equally on the technical detail and on the fascinating story of how armored trains were actually used in combat. This title will appeal to armor, military history and railroad enthusiasts alike.
