About This Item

Scarce work documenting the achievements of Soviet Armenian during its first twenty years, apparently issued by the American-Armenian Progressive League. The organization, established by immigrants in the early twentieth century, sought to foster connections between Soviet Armenia and the diaspora in the United States. Little is known about Selean (or Selyan), who later resettled in Armenia. The League gradually became more and more left-leaning, and in 1951 was indexed by the House Un-American Activities Committee. With several striking images showing youth at work and singing, as well as Anastas Mikoyan (1895-1978), the Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet statesman. KVK, OCLC show the copies at Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, UCLA, Harvard, and Michigan only.
