Fine Clean glossy black boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. In the original publisher's Near Fine dust-jacket. This is in an older protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks VG+. (xiii) + (3) + 375 pp. Boards clean, tight, sharp cornered and firm. NO inscriptions, marks or annotations, but the former owner's bookplate is on the front pastedown = Patrick Thomas, Author of books on Armenia and others. Pages and page edges very clean and white. This is a translation of the Chronicle of 12th-century Armenian historian, Matthew of Edessa. The Chronicle, which covers the period from 925 AD to 1162 AD, deals with events in Armenia and Upper Mesopotamia. It also refers to events in the Byzantine Empire and those conquered by the Crusaders. Armenian princes, Arab potentates, and Turkish invaders march across the pages of this eyewitness account. The introduction to the book discusses the historian's life, work and attitudes.
