About This Item

Argonaut Publishing Corporation & Los Angeles Saturday Night Publishing. Los Angeles. 1925., 1925 Oversize (About 11 by 16 inches) bound volume of 26 issues of the Argonaut & Saturday Night (About 13 issues each) ranging from January 3, 1925 through June 27, 1925. A weekly magazine devoted to California and particularly Los Angeles & San Francisco. Illustrated with photos and drawings. Much local advertising. The magazine may have had covers when sold in individual issues but this bound volume includes no covers. Nearly all issues feature a biography of a prominent California 'Men Of Notable Constructive Ability' including William Mulholland, Harry Chandler, George Chaffey, John Diedrich Spreckels and many others. Feature sections on Art, Music, Books, Drama, Los Angeles & San Francisco Society, etc. About half way through the issues an article on Bel Air appears and then ads for the rural real estate development of Bel Air are in each issue (Over 50 miles of riding trails!). Those were the good old uncrowded days. Many special articles, features, poems, vignettes, news events, etc. A good look at California before the Depression hit. Book with spine bottom dinged; wear through of cloth covers in places; interior with one issue marked in pen, pencil and crayon (As though by an editor); one page with two scissor cuts.
