Volume 1 loose pages and map, MISSING plate between pages 224 and 225, parts of pages ripped out mainly the introduction and preface, pages 224 to 231 ripped and sellotaped, loose map torn and repaired. Damp staining to loose frontispiece. Sold as reading copy only. Arctic Bibliography 8373: A good account of the voyage to Smith Sound, and of the winter on the north-west coast of Greenland, with extensive notes on the flora and fauna, the inuit and glaciers, the story of the final abandonment of the "Advance" and the party's return in small boats.No one had yet sailed beyond its northern portals.
