Hartford: Bliss. VG book. Bliss logo blind stamped on rear board. Very nice book.. 1872 (1868cp).. Later 1 vol ed. Hardcover. VG book. Brown cloth. AEG. Gilt cover lettering, gilt vignette of small ship among icebergs. Tight. Very clean, in & out. . TP dated 1871, with 1868 cp date and the engraved tp dated 1872. This edition with all 244 illustrations of the original 1856 2 vol edition. PLUS: This, and only this, edition lists all these illustrations. The 1st edition did not. The numbering and titles of the plates are the same(with 1 exception) for both 2 vol & 1 vol editions. So the 1 vol plate index can be used to find each plate in the earlier 2 vol editions. This 1 vol edition WAS NOT published with the fold out chart, but LAID IN is the fold out chart from an 1857 printing. All text block edges gilt, with all 3 smooth and bright as new. Very nice text block. BUT: extreme bottom corner damp stained, 1/4" at most. AND: all plates offset to adjoining text page & with few lightly foxed spots. Cover edges & extrems sunned, bumped & worn. Inked gift note dated 1878. .
