Phila: Childs & Peterson. GOOD books. VG internally. Tight binding. No loose pages.. 1857. early editions. Hardcover. GOOD books. VG inside. Worn covers. Brown cloth. Faded gilt spine lettering. Sailing ship vignette stamped on all covers. . Each vol with a frontis and an additional engraved tp. Vol 1 also with a fold out map & a single page map, plus 11 tissue guarded plates. Vol 2 with a fold out chart of Baffin bay isothermal lines and 7 plates. All tips bumped & worn to underlying board. spine ends chipped & frayed. Vol 2 inner hinge paper cracking, hinges still sound. Vol 2 scattered light foxing. Attachment areas of both fold outs torn, now repaired with archival tissue. There is no list of illustrations with names, numbers or page numbers. This was not done till the later 1 vol edition. A copy of the list from a 1 vol edition is included.. .
