"An Arctic Boat Journey in the Autumn of 1854" by Isaac Hayes (surgeon of the second Grinnell expedition). 1860 1st American edition in publisher's original cloth binding; Brown, Taggard and Chase; Boston. At the front of the book is a large fold-out map titled "A Chart of the Arctic Regions." (The Baffin Bay map is not present.) The book chronicles the second Grinnell expedition by the ship "Advance" under the command of Elisha Kent Kane in search of Sir John Franklin's lost expedition.

Condition:
Small cloth tears at the right and left edges of the spine; fraying to the top and bottom edges of the spine; the top edge of the spine is worn; sharp corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are in great condition - clean with no notable issues found. The Arctic Regions map has a 2" tear on the blank panel next to the spine (the map itself is unaffected). The Baffin Bay map has been removed and is not present. The gilt on the spine has mostly faded; book ID label affixed to the spine. The front pastedown has a bookplate and a name/date (1896) in pen; the front end paper has a name in pencil.
