Contains 48 sketches, in free verse with illustrations, featuring the beloved cockroach & cat, originally published in New York newspapers, 1916-1930. No publication date, but research suggests approximately 1960, the FIRST EDITION in book form from Doubleday. With black cloth-covered boards decorated with gilt design & lettering to front & spine, this hardcover is in Near Fine condition, marred only by 1) mild foxing to all endpapers & title page, & 2) long gift inscription in pen to ffep; NO other writing or underlining or highlighting; not ex-lib. Else, completely clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white. The price-clipped DJ is truly Fine: bright & colorful with virtually NO edgewear or fading.
