The main historical significance of Dr. Janse's archaeological documents is to be found in the fact that they not only introduce to us the Chinese conquerors of what was to become Vietnam, at the very moment when they were laying its foundations as a civilized nation, buy they also reflect on Chinese culture and conditions even at home and may help to give us a clearer idea of what the Chinese were, about the beginning of our era, and what their quest was, so far south of the Honanese cradle of their civilization. .
