About This Item
London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1811. Hardcover. Good condition. Scarce first edition in gilt tooled leather binding, which could use a rebacking, but nevertheless a lovely set. The first English language edition rendered the title as 'The Arabian Nights' Entertainment', otherwise known as 'One Thousand and One Nights', the collection of folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age from the 8th to the 14th century.
Sympathetically rebacked, calf binding with gilt detailing. Sections of 4 spines chipped away. Internally, the pages are bright & clean.
8vo, each volume with engraved frontispiece. All edges gilt. Vol. I: 362pp; Vol. II: 456pp. Vol. III: 448 pages. Vol. IV: 403pp. Vol. V: 419pp. Vol. VI: 462pp. As is. OCLC: 5300539.
