A description of the life and works of Apuleius (Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis) c.124 – c.170. Born in Numidia in present-day Algeria, the writer, magician and philosopher of ancient Rome is perhaps best known for his "The Metamorphoses" (or, "The Golden Ass"), which includes his "The Tales of the Marriage of Cupid and Psyche." The influence of Apuleius is discussed, and with various plates bearing black & white images of artworks depicting Cupid and Psyche. An entry in publisher's "Our Debt to Greece and Rome" series. --- In full navy cloth-covered boards with titling and Greek key decorations in gilt to spine; TEG (top edge gilt). Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- With prior owner F. M.
