About This Item
Seattle: Aerial Phenomena Research Group, 1957. First Edition . Wrappers. Very Good Plus. Quarto. Seattle: Aerial Phenomena Research Group, 1957. First Edition of the February, 1957 issue, Vol. 1, No.2. From the collection of UFOlogist Max Miller. Quarto, corner stapled legal paper, 10 pp. Mailing folds, mild age-toning; Very Good Plus. The second issue ever of the APRG Reporter, edited by the rising editorial star of UFOlogy, Robert Gribble, later to become NICAP director and editor of the NICAP Reporter. Gribble's thoughtfulness, clear-sightedness and information-orientation gave his issues a value not found to the same degree in other publications of the genre in the fifties. The lengthy legal paper used in the A.P.R.G. Reporter gave him more room for more contributions, and by this time he did have contributors: in addition to Gribble's "Noted Astronomer Says UFOs May Come From Another Solar System" (not necessarily a common understanding at the time; the astromer was Clyde Tombaugh, discoverer of Pluto) are an article by Jim French on news coverage of UFOs; Lis'c Lagozzino's review of Edward Ruppelt's now-famous hardcover title, The Report On Unidentified Flying Objects; William H. Noordhoek Hegt's "News of Spitzbergen UFO Revealed"; Carol Honey's "The Universe" (now there's a topic); Olavo Fontes' "The Brazilian UFO Review"; and a variety of other shorts by Gribble, including "New Planet Found by Palomar Scope" and, of course, a wide variety of short bulletins on sightings. Serious output at a time in UFOlogy history when that direction was much needed and valued. From the collection of Max Miller, founder of Flying Saucers International and editor of its publication, "Saucers". L103
