A first edition (with publisher's circled 'R' to copyright page) of Burke Davis's account of the momentous last days of the American Civil War in the vicinity of Richmond and Appomattox, Virginia in 1865. The story is told from various points of view: Generals Grant and Lee, Lincoln, Richmond, Petersburg, etc. With several maps and a section of black & white plates. --- In full orange cloth-covered boards with titling in black, white and blue to spine. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- With sunned spine (titling is still readable) and spot of soiling to back panel, gift inscription inked to front free endpaper, else a clean, bright, tightly-bound copy.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (12), 433 pages .
